This NBSe NBSL1-100 is a 2-pole residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) removed from a brand new RV during a professional conversion build — zero use, factory condition. An RCCB is the primary personal protection device in a 230V AC electrical switchboard, tripping the circuit within 0.1 seconds when a residual current (earth leakage) of 30mA or greater is detected — before that current level can cause electrocution.
For motorhome, caravan, and RV electrical systems connected to 230V shore power or a generator, an RCCB is not optional — it is a fundamental safety requirement. The 30mA trip sensitivity is the internationally recognised threshold for personal protection.
Type A — what it means
Type A RCCBs detect both sinusoidal alternating residual currents and pulsating direct residual currents. This is the correct type for modern RV electrical systems which often include inverter-chargers, solar charge controllers, and variable speed motor loads — all of which can produce the pulsating DC residual currents that a basic Type AC RCCB would miss.
