Description
Suzuki Jimny JB23/JB33/JB43/JB53 Shock Absorbers – 2″ Lift, Set of 4
A set of four shock absorbers sized for the Suzuki Jimny JB-generation platform with a 2 inch (50mm) suspension lift. Sold as a complete set — two front and two rear — to replace worn or inadequate shocks on a lifted JB23, JB33, JB43, or JB53 Jimny.
Why Lifted Jimnys Need Longer Shocks
Lifting a Jimny with spacers or longer springs increases the distance between the body and axles at rest. A standard-length shock absorber on a lifted vehicle operates closer to full extension at ride height — reducing available droop travel and causing the shock to bottom out or top out more easily over rough terrain. Shocks sized for a 2 inch lift have the correct extended and compressed length to work properly at the new ride height, restoring full suspension travel and preventing shock damage from over-extension.
JB-Generation Fitment — 1998–2018
These shocks fit the JB-generation Jimny: JB23, JB33, JB43, and JB53 chassis codes, produced from October 1998 to mid-2018. This is the round-body third-generation Jimny — the most common Jimny on NZ roads and the most widely modified.
These shocks do not fit the fourth-generation square-body Jimny (JB64/JB74, 2018+). Confirm your chassis code before ordering.
8-Way Adjustable Damping
These shocks feature 8-way adjustable damping — an external adjustment collar or dial on each shock lets you tune the compression and rebound damping across 8 settings without removing the shock from the vehicle. This is a feature normally found on purpose-built off-road and performance suspension units, not entry-level replacements.
In practical terms this means you can run a softer setting (positions 1–3) for corrugated gravel roads, farm tracks, and comfort-focused daily driving, a mid setting (positions 4–5) for mixed road and trail use, and a firmer setting (positions 6–8) for technical off-road, rock crawling, and situations where body control under load matters more than ride comfort. A Jimny used for both daily driving and weekend off-road work benefits significantly from the ability to switch between settings rather than compromising on a fixed-rate shock.
The gas/oil construction combines hydraulic oil for damping control with nitrogen gas pressurisation to prevent cavitation — aeration of the oil under rapid suspension movement that causes fade and inconsistent damping. Gas/oil shocks maintain consistent performance under sustained off-road use where a basic hydraulic shock would progressively fade.
Important — Additional Parts for a Complete 2″ Lift
Shock absorbers alone do not lift the vehicle. If you are building a 2 inch lift, you also need lift springs or spacers to achieve the height — the shocks are sized to work correctly once the lift is in place. For a complete and correctly engineered 2 inch lift on a JB-generation Jimny you should also consider:
Adjustable front and rear panhard rods — re-centres the axles after lifting. Without these, a 2 inch lift leaves the axles laterally offset, causing uneven tyre wear and handling issues. See our Suzuki Jimny JB23 Front & Rear Adjustable Panhard Rod Set (1998-2018) – 2″ to 4″ Lift Correction
Lift coil springs — proper spring replacement rather than spacers maintains full suspension travel. See our Suzuki Jimny JB23/JB33/JB43/JB53 2″ Lift Coil Springs Set
