Description
Dimsport Rapid Diesel Performance Chip – Land Rover Defender 2.4 TDCi Puma (2007–2011)
The Land Rover Defender Puma (2007–2011) is powered by the 2.4 TDCi — a Ford-sourced common rail diesel also used in the Transit and Ranger of the same era. It produces 90kW and 360Nm from factory — adequate for road use but conservatively mapped for a vehicle that’s routinely used for station work, towing, and serious off-road driving. The Dimsport Rapid chip connects inline with the common rail fuel pressure sensor, modifying the signal seen by the ECU to increase injected fuel quantity and shift more torque into the mid-range where a loaded Defender needs it.
The Defender is used harder than almost any other vehicle in NZ — farmers and station owners who put 50,000–100,000 kilometres a year on these vehicles across rough terrain and under load understand the difference between a Defender that pulls freely from low revs and one that has to be worked. The Rapid chip makes that difference felt in daily use without touching the engine or requiring a workshop visit.
About the 2.4 TDCi Puma Engine
The Ford-sourced 2.4 TDCi replaced the older TD5 and 2.5 diesel engines in the Defender from 2007. It’s a modern common rail unit with solid reliability credentials, and it responds well to fuel pressure signal modification — the same engine platform was successfully tuned in Transit and Ranger applications worldwide. The Dimsport Rapid was developed with this in mind.
